HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
KATHY!
There's a bit of a story behind this 'present'
and it goes like this . . .
I'm a sort of fanatic when it comes to roadside litter
- been picking it up for over 40 years.
Recently, I decided to participate in Ohio's
"Adopt-a-Highway" program.
(click here to see the Ohio Department of Transportation's website)
ODOT assumes that GROUPS of people - organizations or businesses -
will be gathering the litter . . . not fanatic singletons like me.
(click here to see what's available in Fayette County -- If you go to the very bottom of this ODOT page, you will see a familiar name.)
I chose the freeway interchange that I use most frequently when I go into town:
-- US 35 and State Route 753 -

When I applied through ODOT to pick up this interchange, they wanted to know the name of my organization or business - so they could put its name on signs.
Well, I didn't want MY name on the signs (too many folks know me), so . . .
Bingo!
- - - - -
I cleared the interchange of litter for the first time on July 30th.
-- took almost six hours -- got nine bags full of litter --
and a few minutes after I'd finished, the area was hit by a downpour.
I'm committed to clearing it four times a year for two years.
Because the Wal-mart Distribution Center is nearby, there is constant truck traffic:
It's quite a busy intersection.
Adopt-a-Highway signs are posted at freeway off-ramps from both directions.
Thousands of folks see your name every day. . .
You're FAMOUS, but only one of those travelers knows who you are,
and (again) HE wishes you,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY !
